Nomads’ double over Buccaneers; Outlaws hit the top

Cippenham Buccaneers’ title challenge has faltered a little although they remain Cippenham Outlaws’ sole potential challengers. That happened when Burnham Nomads beat Buccaneers for a second time this season. Paul Baker won his three for Buccaneers but their only other success came from Ricky Hardcastle over Ian Baker. Dave Hyder and Elroy Hull both beat Ricky and all three Nomads defeated Muz Sabir.

That was Buccaneers’ only match since the last report while Outlaws have played three times. Three wins mean that Outlaws have leapfrogged Buccaneers at the top of the division and now lead their rivals by 21 points although Buccaneers do have a match in hand and the two teams have yet to play each other a second time. In their first meeting, Buccaneers won 8-2 to inflict Outlaws’ only defeat of the season so far.

Outlaws won their re-arranged match with Cippenham Rascals 7-3 with the unbeaten Rafique Sarhadi scoring the three for the losing side. However, his tussle with Neil Bird was quite a spectacle with Rafi winning 16-18, 11-7, 11-5, 19-17! Anthony Gardner’s loss to Filippo Rotunno was all Burnham Leopards got from their visit to Outlaws with Graham Trimming and Neil Bird winning their matches all 3-0. Then followed a routine 10-0 win over bottom team Cippenham Scoundrels.

Nomads, apart from beating Buccaneers, also secure a good 9-1 win over Burnham Leopards to take second spot for themselves and leave Buccaneers (probably temporarily) in second place. Leopards were only able to field two players for this match and their only gain came from Derek Sudlow’s win over Elroy Hull. Dave Hyder and Ian Baker were untroubled.
